Dr. Zhaoli Guo obtained both his MSc. (Computational mathematics at Department of Mathematics, 1997)
and Ph.D. degrees (High performance computing at Department of Computer Science, 2000) at the Huazhong
University of Science and Technology (HUST), and then was appointed to a postdoctoral position at the National
Laboratory of Coal Combustion (NLCC) of China (June 2000 { May. 2003). He then worked as a visiting scholar
at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology from Sep. 2003
to Aug. 2005, and became a faculty at HUST from Sep. 2005. He is currently a professor at HUST and was
awarded Distinguished Young Scholars from the National Natural Science Foundation of China in 2011, and was
supported by the Program of New Century Excellent Talents in University from the Ministry of Education of

Research interests

Dr. Guo’s research interests include micro/nano-scale and multi-scale fluid flows, mesoscopic modeling and
numerical simulations of complex flows, and flows in multi-scale porous media. He has published 1 book in
English (Lattice Boltzmann method and its Applications in Engineering, World Scienti c Publishing, 2013) and 2
books in Chinese (2002 and 2009) on mesoscopic modeling of complex fluid flows, and over 90 scienti c papers
in refereed international journals which have been cited over 2000 times with an H factor of 22. He has also
presented a number of invited/keynote talks at international conferences. Currently Dr. Guo’s active research
interests include:

  • Kinetic models for strongly inhomogeneous fluid flows at small scales;
  • Lattice Boltzmann method for fluid flows
  • Gas-kinetic schemes for nonequilibrium flows;
    Pore-scale simulation of flows in compact porous media.
